Seishin Space is an independent site about creating calm spaces at home for yoga, meditation and slowing down. We share ideas and buying guides inspired by Japanese and Scandinavian design: natural materials, few things, and a clear purpose for each one.

Why “seishin” and why “space”

Seishin (精神) is a Japanese word for mind or spirit. We believe the space around you shapes the state of your mind: a quieter room makes a quieter practice easier.

The character on our home page, 間 (ma), stands for a Japanese idea often translated as “the space between”: the pause in music, the empty floor around a single vase, the breath between two thoughts. Much of what we write is about making room for it.

What you’ll find here

  • Ideas for calm corners and practice spaces, including small apartments
  • Buying guides for mats, cushions, props and clothing, focused on what to look for and what to skip
  • Gift ideas for people who love yoga, meditation and quiet rituals

How we choose what to recommend

  • Choosing well comes first. Our guides explain materials, sizes and care before they point you to anything specific.
  • We’re honest about our sources. Our guides draw on manufacturers’ specifications, materials and care information, and other reliable sources. When we haven’t used a product ourselves, we don’t pretend we have.
  • We prefer things that last. A well-made cushion that you use for ten years beats three cheap ones.
  • We keep guides current. When products, prices or our recommendations change, we update the guide.

How the site is funded

Seishin Space is free to read. Some of our guides contain affiliate links to shops and brands: if you buy through them, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. It never decides what we recommend. Read more in our affiliate disclosure.
